WESTON - The Three Little Pigs, a charming new musical, opens in Weston Thursday, June 19. Three sibling piglets, a devoted single-mama pig, and a big bad wolf. You know the story. Now add to it a hip contemporary musical score written by an award-winning Broadway writing team, seven exceptional young performers from the country's top undergraduate programs, the creative directorial talent of Weston Producing Director Tim Fort and the result is a delight for young and old alike.

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company has a tradition of starting its summer season with a family-friendly show featuring its Young Company members.

This year a talented group of seven performers anchors the season - beginning as the effervescent company of The Three Little Pigs, continuing as regulars in Weston's famed late-night cabaret, and finally appearing in key roles in the ensemble of Weston's August block-buster musical, A Chorus Line.

"We have managed to cast really talented 'triple-threats' year after year," stated Fort, "and this year is no exception. But what's really special about this group is the synergy among them. They have bonded like family from Day One and their chemistry is incredibly positive."

The creative team who adapted the classic bedtime story, George Stiles (music) and Anthony Drewe (lyrics) have written more than a dozen musicals together including the award-winning Honk! (seen by more than 5 million people).

Most recently, they wrote the new songs featured in the Broadway production of Mary Poppins. Their version of The Three Little Pigs was one of only nine new musicals chosen by the National Alliance for Musical Theatre for its 2013 Annual Festival of New Musicals. Like many of their shows, The Three Little Pigs appeals to all ages, making it a popular outing for multi-generations. The characters are engaging, the songs are fun, and the show allows for a good amount of audience participation.

The family-friendly production runs June 19 through July 12 at the seasonally-transformed Weston Rod and Gun Club (982 Route 100S, Weston). Show times are Tuesday - Thursday at 4 p.m., Friday-Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m., Sunday at 3 p.m. The show runs about an hour with no intermission. Tickets are just $15 for adults and $8 for kids and can be purchased by calling 802-824-5288 or at westonplayhouse.org.

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is an award-winning nonprofit theatre nationally known for its multi-stage summer season, education and new works programs. A $10 million capital campaign is currently underway, with plans to build a year-round cultural center for Southern Vermont - a theatre arts incubator with retreats, workshops and a new studio theatre at Weston's Walker Farm.
